I can verify once we receive a drive. Honestly, with my experience with SSDs dropping dead, this is not a warm fuzzy feeling for me, firmware update or not.
If the original firmware is somehow harmful to the SSD, you'd think that Lenovo would push out updates via vantage, or warn customers that such a condition exists.
This also means I need to hunt down each 470 in our fleet and run updates on them, if Vantage can't do it automatically.

We were sent a PCIe stick drive instead of SATA. The person on the chat doesn't even know the difference. This is insanely frustrating.

We have over 3,000 active t460's with this SSD in them. Our team replaced a good number of them with brand new SSD's before finding out that a FW update was available which specifically addresses the issue and 9/10 times fixes even the ones we thought dead.
What's more frustrating is Lenovo has not yet pushed this to their System Update control center. If Lenovo isn't going to be proactive and take the time to update the firmware on each SSD before deploying (known) faulty hardware, then they should be at the very least making this a critical update within System Update.

We have multiple failing SSDs in thinkpad 460 laptops, they are Intel Pro 2500 180GB.
They start freezing and causing windows BSODs. Updating firmware fixes the issue most of the times.
The SSDs have LUCi firmware and some of them have LUDi. The LUDi ones can not be updated using FWSD48 as it only updates LUCi to LUSi.
I need to update a the LUDi drives too. Intel SSD toolbox refuses to update them too, since they are OEM.
Unfortunately our company policy disallows sending media to third parties including warranty centers.United States of America

I'd call Intel and see if you can find a sympathetic tech. support person.
In some of their other utilty products there is a special command line switch or key-combination
that allows bypass of the OEM-hardware.
Some years back they called it "Technician Mode"

Sorry for this trouble. I checked with our SSD engineer and there appears to be a mistake in the fwwinsd.pro file that specifies which previous versions of firmware can be updated to the latest LUSi version. In the FWSD48 package, can you please try replacing the original fwwinsd.pro file with the one that I attached?

However I have tried running all the .exe files manually, they didn't do anything. I suspect they needed some arguments.
Isn't also an TSLUDi_LUSi.dll file needed?

I have an even older intel SSD with a firmware too old to update. Its a INTEL SSDSC2BF180A4L with firmware "LADi" Looking at the FWWINSD.pro file it looks like it will only update the LSQi and LSTi firmwares to the latest LS2i. However based on this thread, I dug into the structure of the FWSD48 and it appears that the FWWinsd.pro only points to what exe to use and the exe are all descended from the original intel irmfuu.exe file.

Digging further, it looks like each of the lenovo exe files is linked to a .dll with the actual firmware content. For the irmfuu_6.0.2_win32.exe the exe is linked to Lenovo_LSTi-LSQi_LS2i_win32.dll. Since there is only one file for multiple starting firmware, I am hoping that it is a full overwrite of the firmware and not just a patch.
Does that mean that as long as I add the correct Starting firmware in the FWWINSD.pro file, it will update the firmware to the correct latest one?
I know this is a lot of trouble for an obsolete drive, but the original firmware had some issues with write amplification (87TB NAND writes for 127GB system writes) that I would like to fix before using it again. This is more of a challenge at this point :)
