Save is made by spending a coin in fountains, and it's the only point where you can restore it.
The game is quite short so usually, the last time you saved is usually quite close.

You should NEVER have to pay to save a game because that is a terrible design choice.
Glad I got this game in a Humble Bundle with two other games for 1 dollar total because I would be refunding otherwise.

2. This game is special in that aspect, you pay for saving the game. At the beginning, I thought it was a risky game desing. because if you save too many times you may end up without coins. But I have finished the game and have clearly seen there are many coins to find, so I advice you to save often.
In fact, I sometimes tried to save after finding 2 letters instead of 1 and I sometimes died while getting the second. THIS IS NOT NECESSARY. I advice you to save often, every time you get a letter or even sooner sometimes.
3. Try not to punishing the game too much for this, it is a nice little game you got for a very little money, try to enjoy it another day you are feeling better.

Yeah, sorry, I realised the what you really meant after writing my comment, but I was feeling to lazy to edit it. Sorry.
Anyway, I think the game deserves another opportunity, you will find enough gold, believe me. The game is more or less linear until the end, but has different endings.
Once you reach an ending, you can easily get the others in not very long time. Try to enjoy

You must have hated the old Resident Evil trilogy then as you needed to spend ink ribbons in order to save the game, and you had to use them wisely :)

1st of all, what kind of oaf takes 15 minutes to place 5-7 candles around the entire corridor area.
2nd of all, you are literally TOLD how to save, not to mention the game is really short and can be completed for a very first blind walkthrough in less than 3-4 hours, not even halfway through the game I had over 30 coins.
3rd. Suggesting this is bad design is just..ignorant, almost borderline stupid honestly. You're the one missing out on a good game, sorry you have poor taste.
