Go to Device Manager --> Network adapters --> Uninstall network adapter (on which setting Bridged adapter is not working) --> Click on Scan for harware changes --> Restart PC --> after restart go to Device Manager --> Network adapters --> uninstalled network adapter will be marked with "!", again uninstall this network adapter --> Click on Scan for harware changes - now network adapter will be installed and restart will not be required

I found a solution
- Open Windows Network Connections
- Right click on VirtualBox Host only adapter that created
- Choose properties
- Check "VirtualBox NDIS6 Bridged Networking driver"
- disable and Enable the adapter
There is a known issue with the new NDIS6 driver, you can install it to use the NDIS5 driver
Try reinstalling it with a parameter (Run as administrator)
> VirtualBox-5.0.11-104101-Win.exe -msiparams NETWORKTYPE=NDIS5
This worked for me.
Update: Newer versions made it easier to pick the NDIS driver from within the installation wizard - just pick NDIS5 when asked.

I burned 4 hours of my time for this issue. I can eat my snacks now. Thank you! Thanks much :) I struggled for last 2 days to bring it back. I Have network adapter NDIS6. This was not at all working. So reinstalled VBox manually with option NDIS5 and it started working. My question is, even though my network device shown as NDIS6, I use NDIS5 during install. Does it cause any problems ?Open Network and Sharing Center and go to the Change adapter settings in the sidebar.
Right-click on the host-only adapter in the list of adapters and then Configure button -> Driver tab -> Update driver button.
Select Browse my computer . and in the next dialog select Let me pick . You should see the list with just host-only driver in it.
Select it and click next. After the driver is updated, please try using host-only network in a VM again.
I tried the above options, but in vain. Eventually I uninstalled docker-toolbox (1.11.x) and virtualbox(5.16.x) and CHECKED the following option in the docker-toolbox installer GUI (by default the NDIS5 option was unchecked)
Also the virtualadapter in network connections had "Bridge Networking Driver" option UNCHECKED and that worked fine for me
The same error occurred when I updated Windows. Tried everything. Nothing worked.
Finally, went to Device Manager-> Network Adapters Disabled and enabled the Virtualbox Host only Adapter
Bridged networking not working in Virtualbox under Windows 10
I just upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and found that I am unable to start Virtualbox VMs configured with a bridged adapter.
See the configuration below:

First of all you have to create a VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet adapter
- Go to File > Preferences On the Network tab select Host only Networks click on "add a Host-only adapter" give it a name by default it is "VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet adapter"
- go to Network connections on Windows and highlight both the real adapter and the new virtual ethernet adapter that you just created.
- Right click and select "Bridge Connections", it's going to create a network bridge in Windows.
Now configure your VM :
- in the Network part you can activate a new adapter and then select Attached to Host only adapter
- Choose the VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet adapter you have just created
You can now configure your static IP Address by modifying /etc/network/interfaces :
You can now restart eth0 by doing :
Some wireless adapters don't work
Where you put the ip? In the virtual machine? I can set a IP in the same LAN or I must be set the same IP of the bridge connection? The gateway is the IP address of the router? This method just makes my host machine also unable to reach the internetMy Windows 10 machine was automagically updated today. Looks like the "Windows 10 Anniversary update" When I restarted Virtualbox my server with a bridged adapter showed same as OP. I tried rerunning the VirtualBox installer (it did a Repair) - that did not fix the issue. I tried running the installer again as Admin (it did a Repair) - that did not fix. I ran the installer and selected UnInstall, then ran it again to Install. And the Network adapter settings looked good. Server started and connected to my network as usual. Whew. Hope this helps someone.
1,035 1 1 gold badge 9 9 silver badges 14 14 bronze badges I did the exact same thing as you and the adapter is still missing - which brought me here searching and I find you had success - I guess I need a better hammer to beat the software with. Exact same story with Virtualbox 6.0.8 after Windows 10 update to v1903 (build 18362.116) Fixed by removing + installing VirtualBox. I experienced the same issue - my Win 10 updated to v2004 and evidently removed my VirtualBox ethernet adapters. Repairing did not work. I had to uninstall VirtualBox and re-install it (no reboot needed). This created the ethernet adapters and then I was able to use bridged networking.Go to your net card. Go to properties and then Install -> Service , which? This: VirtualBox NDIS6 Bridged Networking Driver
Reopen Virtual Box
Install the latest Virtual box 5.x and this issue will be resolved.
Does not solve the problem . Running 5.2.0. guest : ubuntu, host : windows Upgrading VirtualBox 5.2.0 -> 5.2.4 fixed bridged networking problem for me. In my case guest was simply unable to reach network with all configuration correct. This is how I mananged to fix this problem:
Enable "Windows 8" compatibility for VirtualBox executable: right-click on VirtualBox shortcut>Properties: in Properties dialog box: switch to "Compatibility" tab, under "Compatibility mode" section, select the check box next to: "Run this program in compatibility mode", make sure "Windows 8" is selected in combo box. click Ok, run VirtualBox again! (it's not needed to run as Administrator)
p.s.: It seems that VirtualBox doesn't yet fully support Windows 10, so some features might not work properly on some computers
Uninstall then run the setup program again but this time as Administrator. Make sure the VB bridge driver is selected during installation.
Install "vbox-ssl-cacertificate.crt" certificate from %userprofile%\\.virtualbox\ and then reboot. If you don't have .virtualbox folder - launch "Oracle VM VirtualBox" once and this folder will appear.
I had this issue not only on my machine but on many hosts, and this certificate fixed the issue. I figured it out by chance, because nowhere said about this certificate -_-
I can't see the original source in this thread, although I would like to.
I am using these instructions with a laptop that upgraded from windows 8 to windows 10. I have to repeat the last instructions after rebooting.
Failed to open/create the internal network Vagrant on Windows10
I upgraded my Windows 10 to the last update yesterday and now, when I launch vagrant up command, I get this error :
When I try with GUI I have this error :
I have re-installed VirtualBox 5.0.10 and the extension pack, reconfigured Host-Only Ethernet Adapter, but always the same error.
Reboot your PC
The box was already checked and a simple reboot fixed it.
After years of telling people to just reboot, I failed to follow my own golden advice; face, meet palm.
Uninstall Virtualbox and install the latest version, at the time of this answer it's 5.12. I installed Vagrant which automatically installed Virtualbox 5.10. I ran into this issue after installing the Windows 1511 update, uninstalling the Vagrant provided Virtualbox and installing the latest version fixed this.
The two answers did not solve my issue but combining them, I was able to solve the problem. My situation was I was trying to install and run Docker on a Windows 7 pc and kept getting an error: "Looks like something went wrong. Press any key to continue. "
After much digging, I was able to relate the issue to the host network adapter that was created by Docker. I had the NDIS6 driver installed but it was enabled. I tried to uncheck, disable, recheck, enable etc but it did not help.
I then uninstalled VB and reinstalled as per the first answer to get the NDIS5 driver. This was unchecked, so checking it I was able to move past this issue.
I just ran into this problem with VirtualBox 5.1 on Windows 8. It turns out the problem was with the Kaspersky virus protection I have installed. It added the "Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS 6 Filter" on the host-only adapter on the windows side. When I disabled that filter the VM started properly:
ON WINDOWS 10 After spending 3 frustrating hours of uninstalling & re-installing minikube, virtualbox that did not resolve the problem, I saw the network adapters in my Control Panel->Network and Internet->Network Connections window. There were 3 enabled "VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter" ones. I disabled them all. Then on services screen (run->services.msc) find the Tcp/Ip NetBIOS helper and restart it.
1,675 1 1 gold badge 16 16 silver badges 14 14 bronze badgesI have worked around for a while, all you need to do is open VirtualBox,
File > Preferences / Network > Host-Only Networks
You will see VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter
click on it, and edit.
My IP settings for vagrant VM was 192.168.10.10, you should edit up to your VM IP
