Blockhead
Yeah, Blockhead!
version 11.0
Description
Blockhead is an OBSE plugin in its late forties that has had enough of the Oblivion engine’s limitations. Born in a robber button and brought up by a Dachshund named Colin, it learnt the harsh facts of reality early. Only to laugh at its face, tweak its nose and drop ice cubes down its vestments.
- The compulsory serving of asparagus at breakfast.
- Unrestricted camera movement in the race edit menu.
- The ability to override the inventory menu’s idle animations.
- The induction of the word ‘contrafibularities’ in the Oxford English dictionary.
- The ability to override head and body assets of NPCs on a per-NPC/per-Race basis.
- The ability to override animations of NPCs on a per-NPC/per-Race basis.
- Tidyman’s carpets.
Fine Print
The camera in the race/sex menu can be controlled with the directional keys (arrow keys and WSAD) and the mouse (while holding down the Shift key). It can be reset to its original position by clicking on the left mouse button and dragging. Movement and rotation speeds can be configured in the plugin’s INI file.
Inventory idle animation overriding allows custom idle animations to be applied on the inventory menu’s 3D player model without resorting to replacing existing assets. There are 8 available overrides, from which one is automatically selected by the engine depending upon the player character’s equipped weapon. The override values in the INI file should be set to the filename+extension of a valid KF file placed inside the MeshesCharacters_Male directory.
Blockhead implements a 3-tier override tool for customizing NPC body/head textures and meshes:
- Tier 1 (Script) – Applied by using script commands.
- UpperBody
- LowerBody
- Hand
- Foot
- Tail
- Head
- EarsMale
- EarsFemale
- Mouth
- TeethLower
- TeethUpper
- Tongue
- EyesLeft (Model override only)
- EyesRight (Model override only)
Tier 1 overrides do not persist between game sessions and therefore need to be reapplied on loading a save game.
Body/Head parts without a pre-assigned asset can also be overridden, i.e., parts that do not have a valid model/texture path assigned in the editor. Tier 3 overrides for such head parts, however, must be placed in the following directory:
<TexturesMeshes>CharactersHeadAssetOverridesPerRace<MF> (where MF corresponds to the gender of the NPC)
…with the following naming convention: XXX_<HeadPartName>.<ext>
- Hair – Hair assets can be assigned gender-specific files by adding a ‘-M’ or ‘-F’ suffix to their filenames.
- Age Overlays – Age textures can be overridden on a per-NPC basis through script commands or custom assets placed in the following folder: TexturesCharactersAgeTextureOverrides<ModFileName.ext>. File naming convention: 00XXXXXX_YY.dds, where XXXXXX – FormID of the NPC (without the mod index), and YY – Age. Script overrides supersede the latter, do not persist b’ween game sessions.
- Per-NPC – Override files must use the following naming convention: <Filename>_BLKD_PERNPC_XXX_00YYYYYY.kf, where XXX – Name of the mod file name + extension, YYYYYY – FormID of the NPC record, without the mod index.
- Per-Race – Override files must use the following naming convention: <Filename>_BLKD_PERRACE_XXX_Y.kf, where XXX – Name of the race, Y – Gender (M/F).
The first part of the filename must follow the same naming convention as the vanilla game’s, e.g., BowIdle_PERRACE_Nord_M.
An NPC can be affected by more than one override at the same time – The engine has the final say on which animation file gets used (the actual mechanics of the picking logic is yet to be discovered/understood).
Equipment override - Refer to the readMe.
The plugin’s INI file is generated after first run (in the same folder as the DLL file) and contains options to toggle its features.
It is recommended that Blockhead be used in tandem with the NPC Tex Tweak plugin, which offers users more avenues to customize NPC textures.
Compatibility
This plugin is compatible with every other OBSE plugin there is. Should you find a discrepancy, please report it through the contact avenues as stated below.
"Blockhead"
.\Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins\Blockhead.dll
Blockhead.dll".
Blockhead.dll

Please report issues in the bugs section of the mod's page.
And provide as much information as you can. This would include the log files of the plugin, OBSE, a detailed description of the problem and instructions to reproduce it.
?PLEASE DO NOT OPEN BUG REPORTS FOR INSTALLATION ISSUES - THEY WILL BE CLOSED WITHOUT A RESPONSE. THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE STICKY POSTS BELOW SHOULD GIVE YOU ALL THE INFO YOU NEED TO SUCCESSFULLY INSTALL THE MOD.- premium

Detailed Installation Instructions (follow these if you see the "Install Blockhead" texture in-game):
When the download is complete extract it to that same folder with 7-Zip. You will now have your downloaded file, a file named Blockhead_readme.rtf and a folder named OBSE. Right mouse click on the folder named OBSE and select Copy from the right click menu.
Now navigate until you can see your game install's Data folder. Right click on the Data folder and select Paste from the right click menu. You should get a prompt about merging the contents of the source OBSE folder with the OBSE folder that is already in your game's Data folder . answer Yes to all of the prompts. If you don't get that prompt then either you haven't previously installed Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) or you are pasting into the wrong folder.
Thanks to Striker879 for taking the time to write that down.
For anyone else like me who uses mo2 and was pissed it was not working with blockheads I have a fix. Launch mo2 and locate the place to modify executables. Should be ctrl+e by default. Then select force load libraries and select configure libraries.
Mark what is shown here.
. IF YOU'RE ON THE STEAM VERSION AND ONLY THE BEAST-RACES AND NORDS OF OCOv2 WORK FOR YOU, READ THIS.
For some odd reason, Vortex or any other Mod Manager for that matter, doesn't run OBSE correctly, which causes only some of the races to work.
You have to start the game normally via the Steam Library, that is the only way to run OBSE properly. (I assime it has to do with the Game's launcher)
That fixed it for me and all races now work as intended.
Character Overhaul or Blockhead not working
Both OBSE and Blockhead CAN NOT BE INSTALLED USING ANY MOD MANAGER. They must be installed manually. No exceptions. Be sure to read the instructions and place the correct files and folders in the correct folders of your game installation.
And, yes, the readme is outdated in regards to OBSE and Steam integration. Now, if OBSE is correctly installed, Steam will load it automatically. But you must still follow to the letter the installation instructions, and enable the Steam Overlay for Oblivion.
To check if OBSE is running, you can use the OBSE Tester utility.
Also, do not forget to put OCO the LAST on your load order (or, right before your Bashed Patch if you have one). And do Archive Invalidation (BSA Redirection, with Reset BSA TImestamps enabled).
I gave a look at Mod Organizer Nexus Mods page and my goodness, this thing works in a radically different way than Oblivion modding is supposed to work. Sorry, matey, but I can't give you further advice. You need advice from Mod Organizer experienced users.
Anyway, in order to be sure that OBSE is actually not working, check the OBSE tester utility.
I don't know how Mod Organizer performs the Archive Invalidation, but with the rest of managers for Oblivion (OBMM, Wrye Bash and NMM), it's a one-time-only procedure. If your Archive Invalidation is performed through an external esp or txt file like ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.txt, then it's obsolete and deprecated, and not reliable.
On a personal opinion side, I see in the Mod Organizar Page for Oblivion that this version is too obsolete, no longer maintained, and deprecated by the one available at the Skyrim Nexus. This is not a good thing for Oblivion players. Generally, utilities designed with Skyrim in mind are hardly compatible with Oblivion, no matter what they creators say, like Nexus Mod Manager for example.
Summarizing: sorry, matey, I give up.
YAOF . just what the world needed
I've seen plenty of reports that Mod Organizer and OBSE aren't exactly easy to get working together. I think I recall seeing someone post instructions on how to get MO and OBSE playing nice, but it would have been on one of the myriad of threads I've read/posted on, and wasn't recently.
May your luck with Search would be better than mine.
Mod Organizer works with Oblivion, but OBSE scripts and other particular mods (Blockhead), need to be installed to the oblivion directory.
1. Make sure Steam Overlay is enabled.
2. Install OBSE directly into the Oblivion folder.
3. Install blockhead.dll directly into \data\obse\plugins (in the Oblivion folder). Do not use MO. It won't work.
4. Now in Mod Organizer, go into the Modify Executables option and do the following:
- Put a name in the Title box (I called it Steam)
- In the Binary box, point it at steam.exe (C:\games\steam\steam.exe)
- In the Arguments box put -applaunch 22330
5. Now go into Settings and click the Workarounds tab. There's an option called Load Mechanism. By default it will be set to Mod Organizer. Change it to Script Extender.
Use this newly created executable (from the drop down menu next to the big Run button) any time you want to launch your modded oblivion. If you've done it right, it will load up the Oblivion launch pad, and from there you just click play.
I had the same problem as OP, and this solved it. Thanks Massafnq!
I spent hours reading contradictory information, but this post is the only thing that helped me set up Mod Organizer + Blockhead + Oblivion Character Overhaul + the Steam version of Oblivion.
Should be the first hit on google. Thank you.

I had problems with this as well, installed blockhead first then charector overhaul v2 loaded game from steam and it worked useing OBMM. OBSE is outdated was causing conflicts I think, so I left it out.
