What is DISE? What can I do with it?
DISE (Dead Island Save Editor) is a game-save editor/changer/modifier for the game Dead Island. The goal is to be able to make changes to things like your skills, quests, inventory and such.
Where are my game-saves?
How do I change a weapon's base stats/attributes?
Unfortunately, it's highly experimental because the game performs several calculations that are yet to figure out. The only thing you can do is copy the value from other weapons or try something random.
Can play online with my modded save?
Yes, but I hope people won't be abusive towards other players. :)
Can I get VAC-banned from using an edited game-save?
I guess that if someone would get banned from using edited game-saves, I should be one of the first to receive one. I have to test modified game-saves all the time, as well as those that are not my own. I sync them to the cloud as well. No problem so far. :) I haven't tried to play online though, so I am not sure how that works. Cheating in online games isn't cool anyway. :) In single-player mode, I see no reason to receive a ban. There's also an option to disable VAC in the game.
Syncing hangs/freezes/doesn't work
If you don't use Steam, you don't need to sync. If you do, make sure that the app ID in DISE is set correctly (in Tools > Preferences) as seen in your <game dir>\steam_appid.txt file.
If you're running Steam as Administrator, please make sure that you do the same with DISE. Also make sure to use the latest version of DISE and the latest version of Steam. If syncing breaks after updating Steam, I suggest that you contact me.
- If you update Steam after a release of DISE, features related to Steam may be broken. You must either use an older Steam client, or DISE must be updated.
- Try to change the backup folder location in Tools > Preferences, to somewhere other than the same place as your saves, such as on the desktop.
DISE should work with all versions but I recommend updating the game to the latest version.
Does/Will DISE support PlayStation 3?
Yes, DISE has FULL support for PS3 saves! Game Genie is NOT required! :)
Can I use DISE / sync while the game is running? (PC)
The game would overwrite the modified save when you reach a checkpoint/close the game, so you should close the game before using the editor.
Can I use DISE from a portable device?
Yes! Create a file called portable in the same folder as dise.exe. User preferences will be stored in userpref.dat.
I lost my license key! Do I have to contribute/donate again?
No need to do that. If you have an account in my Contribution Center, please find your key there.
If not, please sign up and tell me the username/e-mail address for this account, and whichever details you can remember from your old license, or the e-mail address I sent your key to, so that I can find you.
After this, I'll add your old license to your account so that we both can keep track of your license more easily. :)
Does/Will DISE support Dead Island: Ripide?
Yes, DISE supports Riptide right now!
Will I need a new license key for Riptide?
DISE supports both games, and can use your old key.
My computer freezes!
Since DISE runs in userland (not kernel-land), it should not be possible for DISE to completely freeze a healthy computer on its own. Still, I've seen such reports saying that the computer freezes just as DISE was opened.
It's puzzling but I'm keeping an eye on anti-virus/malware programs.
If this happens to you, please send me an e-mail and attach a report made with Speccy (system info tool). For your information, the reports are of course confidential, and I have no interest in anything but the info I need to find the cause of the problem. Still, feel free to remove any personal info.
Can I unlock trophies/achievements?
You can unlock certain trophies/achievements using DISE (tested with Riptide on Steam).
The following achievements can be unlocked using the Mods/Collectibles tab in DISE by selecting guide pages, secret files, tapes, postcards and diary parts:

Well i dont know any other place to reply so ill do it here.
For all those people that downloaded this game. (Pirated) You can edit your games and not get them corrupted.
Check for your games appid from steam_appid.txt from where you installed the game.
Now start DISE. Go to Tools -> Preferences. Change that appid to the one you found in your steam_appid.txt
Then change the Game Storage Location. Usually its just a matter of changing the Appid-part of the text to the new appid.

Those are the appids i had, might differ.

hi i love DISE it was so much easier! until i finished a mission and the autosave sign came in the corner, so i quit the game. the next day i was really excited to play dead island until when the game had loaded i was at the part where you have to get thet lifeguard pass. plz help.
98163765 is the user/account ID. You need to use yours instead. Just go to the "userdata" folder instead and navigate from there. :)

Can I use dise while dead island is still open, so like add a katana to my inventory and sync it while I am ingame?

By the way, my friend lost all the good items in his inventory but on the same day I found out about this and I restored all his items.

If you mean actually changing the weapon (replacing it but keeping the color, etc), it would be possible implement that.
Whilst in multiplayer, (Non VAC secured) could I change my save so that my character is Sam B instead of Xian Mei and other people would see it, then change my character back to Xian Mei without closing my game (Unless DISE automaticly closes my game)
Hi! It would be best to close the game before editing anything, because:
1. The game may overwrite your save.
2. The game keeps parts of the save in memory and only loads the needed parts (so the data is mixed and could be wrong).
Maybe I recall wrong about point 2, but at least it keeps parts of the save or the whole save in memory (so the data is either mixed or none of your changes are loaded).
The "Ripper Mod" should update items names (in-program) as "Bleeding".
Also, i have 2 items that are not in the Dise program, i have imported them into a separate inventory file (xml). I will try and post it up, or email it to you.
Also (sorry), is it possible to update the "questitems" to display the actual name displayed in the game, if this seems like a big nuisance i can personally figure out which is what and comprise a list with the name (in dise) on the left and its in-game counterpart on the right.

every time i put a weapon into my inventory and i goto my dead island on my 360 the weapons i put in my inventory do not appear in my game.

Any way to fix corrupted saves? My Purna got messed up somehow, when I try to open with the editor I get a "This is not a PNG file" error.
When I look at the saves, it looks like this one (save_3) got truncated somehow as it is only 40k vs 60k for the good ones:

I open the save file through Horizon, extract it to the desktop, open it with DISE, edit the file and my only option is to Save or Save As, so I save it back to the desktop but when I try to drag and drop it into Horizon again it says "invalid signature type detected". Any ideas?

I think that the game is worth purchasing, though, and I think some of your issues can be solved by using a legal copy of the game.
If you use cracked/emulated Steam, you must sync but you may have to change your App ID inside DISE.

ok well when i try to mod my games save every thing works fine (btw im doing this for xbox) but after i save it i cant put it back into horizon modio or any other program it keeps saying its an invalid xcontent package can yo please help me fix this?

ive been tryng to do this for a few hours now and im just stumped.. im familiar with modio and know how to do that part. (i think) ive gotten other games to work. when i open the editor and mess around with all the stuff change this and that and save it (save_1) and "open a save" with Modio i get "Modio could not open that file, Invalid Package". how do i get this going for my xbox?

Hello! This can happen e.g. if your game-saves are not in the default location. In any case, the easiest fix should be to run DISE as Administrator. :)
Hey man, I wanted to know why every time I mod my save when I want to inject it in with the rest of my saves on my usb it says Invalid STFS Package!

Hello! :) This can happen on the Xbox if the value is too high. You could try to lower the amount of cash you have (using DISE) and see if it works properly when the value is low enough. :)

My question today is rather basic, but very important to the way the characters all play, in the game. Critical Hits are a big part of the gameplay, and especially when you start using upgraded Modded weapons (Shock, Poison, Flame, etc). You also get many Skills that add to your Critical Hit Chances, further improving your character. However, a very big missing detail is . WHAT IS THE BASE CRITICAL CHANCE !?
Someone mentioned on another forum site that they THOUGHT the base Crit was set at a measly 1-% (0.01) for each character, and skills and modded weapons improved on this value. For example, Deathstalker Mod for Katana adds +6% Critical Value to each attack you make.
This would "Sort of" make sense, but still seems low for some characters. Is it actually true that Base Crit is only 1%, or is the value actually a bit higher ? (5%, 10% ? etc). I am hoping your knowledge of the Game Files will allow you to easily check this for me, and let us all know.
* also, can you see if the Base Crit Chance is identical for all 4 Characters ? (some think Xian Mei has a higher chance than others)
These skills all add things to your characters fighting ability. Blade Fighter says it adds:
"+5% Sharp Damage, -10% Stamina Cost when using Sharp Weapons, +1% Critical Hit Chance when using Sharp Weapon, and +5% bonus damage when targeting enemy Head area with Sharp Weapon attack."
To be clear, Sharp Expert says you gain the following:
"+5% Sharp Damage, -10% Sharp Weapon Stamina Cost, +2% Sharp Critical Chance, and a +10% Bonus to enemy Head when targeted with Sharp Weapons"
Basically, if you take both Blade Fighter, and later on take Sharp Expert, do these bonuses get "added" together ?
Is Xian actually getting a +10% Bonus to Sharp Damage (5+5), -20% Sharp Weapon Stamina Cost (-10 + -10), +3% Critical Hit Chance (+1% + +2%), and significant +15% bonus to your damage when attacking enemy Head areas ? (+5% from the first skill, and a further +10% from Sharp Expert) ?
Again, apologies for the length of this, but thanks again for being a great source of knowledge for this game, and for your willingness to answer questions from fans of it and your great editor !

In regards to the attributes editor in your handy little tool a friend and I did some tinkering today and these were the results I recorded.
the first number set is what the weapon damage was before I edited it(note: I was dumb and lazy and did not record what the attribute value was in the editor before I messed with them. I was also playing on a level 60 Purna with a max skill tree, thanks by the way, which might have an effect on the info I obtained.) The numbers in parentheses is what i changed the attribute value to. The numbers in the brackets is what the damage in game turned out to be. changed attribute values again, second set of parentheses. new damage read out in second brackets. hopefully someone will find this of some use as I could not find a pattern to all this. We will keep tinkering with it until we can find a pattern and/or a value to give extremely high damage output. as they are in the second set of brackets at level 60 I one shot all level 54 walkers.

P.S. Умения в книге умений роскиданы как каша после провки в редакторе, но работают как положено.
У меня путь к сохранениям игры был в папке с установленой игрой

Хороший Save Editor но у меня вопрос к разработчику. почему то на версии Riptide лицензии, у меня нет карт и нет половины того что есть в Riptide, например для улучшения персонажей мне нужен "бензин для зажигалки" но его нет в editore. Ах да и ещё на первой версии Dead island отлично работает )

я хотел просто твики/перки себе поставить но в итоге просто все умения запорол.. теперь заново перепроходить придется. лажа..хоть и все умения работают которые я вкачал но без нормального дерева и с (-567) теперь я ничего не могу прокачать. вообщем пока не исправят дерево умений этот редактор для меня обречен, а ведь в начале все посмотрел и обрадовался что такой редактор есть но из за умений он просто портит игру .
Для такой замечательной игры как Dead Island Riptide существует редактор сохранений. Редактор сохранений позволит вам изменить любое ваше сохранение поменям в нём ключевые параметры. Можно сказать, вы можете создать сами практически любое сохранение с помощью этого редактора.
Редактор сохранений это отдельная мини-программа, которая тем не менее требует установки.
Вы можете скачать здесь данный редактор сохранений Dead Island Riptide. Редактор сохранений для игры представляет собой файл установки, после скачивания и инсталяции которого, вы пользуетесь самим редактором.

1. Скачайте и установите редактор сохранений
2. Начните игру, если не начали чтобы сделать начальный сейв, который затем редактировать. После сохранения можно выключать игру.
3. Откройте установленную программу.
4. Зайдите в папку с сохранениями:

В папке куда установили игру.
5. Перетащите мышкой файл сохранения из папки в редактор сохранений и приступайте, непосредственно, к редактированию.
