Что лучше the forest или the long dark
26 сен. 2014 в 7:06 Which one would you buy? The Long Dark vs The Forest
I would like to play a survival game and i looked some up.
There are 2 games that look very interesting.
The Long Dark and The Forest. I have watched some gameplay of both and i still can't decide which i like more. The crafting mechanics and the gameplay look very nice in The Forest but i really liek the art style and the winter theme of The Long Dark. Also im not too much into horror games but i really like the survival aspekts of both games.
My question now is, if someone of you have played both games and which you would recomment.
I just want to buy 1 game. Maybe i ll buy the second one late but atm i just want to spend money on 1 game.
Thanks for every help.
honestly i must admit i'd go for "the long dark" rather than "the forest". both are quite neat, do not get me wrong here. but i kind of like the realism of the long dark combined with very nice and simplistic graphics.
the forest has some very nice crafting system, the building mechanics feel well, but then again i am not into horror-games either. i neither like zombies nor mutants. well, in the long dark you get killed by wolfes (if not by your own failures), so in that way wolfes replace the zombies. not having played much both of them i must admit the long dark is my favorite, although i'd like to have a way to finetune/rebalance some aspects of the game.
26 сен. 2014 в 7:19 I have booth. Havent touched "the forest" in ages tho. 26 сен. 2014 в 7:21
The Forest has more to do right now as far as content goes, but it is very buggy. Takes a pretty decent rig to run it as it's resource intensive. I would say that this is more about the crafting (and horror, with cannibals) than survival, although it has survival elements in it.
TLD is definitely the way to go for a more survival themed game as it's survival mechanics are pretty in depth. Less crafting than Forest, and there is a lot of content missing from TLD, but it's been out for less than a week. Buggy and needs to be optimized, but pretty decent for being 5 days in EA.
Note: There is an option to turn off the cannibals in The Forest and play it simply as a survival/crafting sim.
i can't tell you which you'll enjoy more, for me in the long run I feel TLD has more potential for a more enjoyable "survival experience". I will say the DEV team for the Long Dark is second to none from what I've seen, commited and always working on suggestions from the crowd. Forests dev's are pretty non-existent and recent patches have definitely hurt the playability of Forest, imo.
26 сен. 2014 в 7:25The Forest:
- Construction of buildings and fence walls, which takes ages of log transport.
- Very few crafting recipies. Only 3, atm, I think.
- Mutants, cannibals, dismemberment. Staples of horror genre.
- Four animals (rabbit, lizard, bird, fish)
- Peaceful mode option.
- Temperature, hunger, thirst, not functional yet other than aesthetics.
The Long Dark:
- No construction. Snow shelters maybe later, but nothing else.
- Lot more crafting already, and more planned.
- Only natural creatures for enemies.
- Two animals (deer, wolves)
- Permadeath.
- Temperature, hunger, thirst all functional, though balance may be an issue.
They both still need a lot of work, but I think TLD is just a little bit further along to 'Game' status.

I have read their forums and checked out some AMA with them and they seem to be a respectable, intelligent and ofc commited bunch of folks. Heck, i bought a "love" voucher 5 times beause i found eskil to be such a likeable guy.
This is one of the upsides in EA. If you educate yourself and not just blindly buy ( and then come here and tell people they suck and its not what YOU expected ) i go with gut feeling.
26 сен. 2014 в 7:33 17 окт. 2014 в 22:23I have both, I believe that both games have potential. At the moment I would chose The Long Dark, for being out for such a short time its doing great, the Devs seem to really care about the feedback.
In regards to the forest, it has so much potential; I just wish they weren’t taking 2 steps back for every step forward. I have high hopes for The Forest, I think it needs to age a little more.
I would go with The long Dark for now, I would also like to recommend another two games to look at, Miasamata and the other one is 7 Days to Die.
I have both comrads. Both are very fun and can be tough.
The Forest:
Personally Id actually say that The Forest really isn't a horror game, or really a survival horror game. When you fight the cannibals your not really afraid, you can fight, run, or scare them off. And it feels like a BATTLE. Now the caves can be quite scary, and thats when elements of a horror game really show. And the devs are adding more everyday! If you'd like to read The Forests updates, i feel like you'd be quite impressed. The crafting is much better and more diverse than some other games, and allows more freedom, to an extent. Harvesting resorces is very realalistic (hope i spelt that right), when trees fall, they fall. There is a whole lot more to explore, craft, hunt, and generally do than in The Long Dark. But where The Forest and The Long Dark really differ is the survival element. In the forest, its all about surviving the cannibals, not nature. Food is plentiful and shelter can be made within 5 mins, if there were no cannibals, it would be a very boring game. But in The Long Dark, its all really about surviving the elements, hunger, shelter, fatigue.
The Long Dark:
A good thing about this game is the sense of almost a constant state of panic. Or never feeling comforatable with where your at. Your either hungry, thirsty, tired, or freezing, ALL THE TIME. And once you start getting into the late game, resorces are very, VERY scarece. When you run out of an essential, all of your time will be dedicated to finding the resorce, and once you have it, you will be out of another resorce. Unlike in The Forest, there is next to no crafting. There is however a harvest and repair system to improve the condition of your exsisting items, but you will never create your own. And also unlike The Forest, you dont find your own wood (lol), you click on a button and your character looks for wood during a black screen, and depending on where you are, you'll find different types of wood. A good thing when first starting, but gets annoying later on due to the fact its based on random chance, and you also feel like you are fast forwarding the game. But The Long Dark really is more of a survival game than The Forest. In a real life situation you wouldnt be building forts and giant spike mouse traps, like in The Forest. You would be looking for food water and shelter, all while braving the elements.
So all in all id say its about what you're looking for, if you want a game about surviving your enemies and strengthening you defenses, go for The Forest. But if you want a game about surviving against nature and collecting resorces, the go for The Long Dark. Hope this helps. ^_^

Что купить - The Long Dark, или The Forest?
у тут уже что тебе больше нравится. Если тебе нравится из врагов какие-нибудь монстры или людоеды, то The Forest, если волки The Long Dark. Если нравится больше строить и исследовать мир, то The Forest. Если суровое выживание в холодной Северной Канаде, то The Long Dark. Если нравится мастерить всякие классные штучки, The Forest, "апгрейдить" готовое, чинить, искать, то The Long Dark.
The Long Dark

The Long Dark
24 дек. 2017 в 6:32 These are my options since I want something crafting related and survival. Both seem so similar and reviews are positive. Wanted to ask you guys who played both. 24 дек. 2017 в 6:45 If u want an athmospheric game with focus on pure survival the long dark should be the right game for you.If u want a more action based game with focus on building and crafting the forest should satisfie all your requirements. 24 дек. 2017 в 7:01
If you enjoy fighting the elements and playing a more thought provoking game with a really good atmosphere and sounds then play TLD.
If you enjoy more Arcady base building with more action then play the forest. Also has multiplayer.
It really falls on what you prefer, but honestly for me (I own both) I’d recommend TLD especially for the cost.
25 дек. 2017 в 3:40Haven't played the forest for about 1 year, but theese 2 games are completely different.
1. The forrest is a typical crafting game, endless grind wood to build up a base, build different base element, farming, defenses. -> crafting mainly.
2. TLD is a "hardcore" survival game. 80 % of the time you have to watch out for food and water and a shelter. Crafting is very limited ( in a good way ^^) to some basic tools like bow, clothes, reparing things. No big ressource grinding ( sure you need wood for a fire, leather for repairing your clothes.. etc.) , no base building. And at least no stupid fights vs monsters and kannibals. You fight only real animals, and only for meat or when they trap you.
Just pure survival.
Even my review doesn't recommend TLD anymore ( release version is far less immersive then EA versions for some reasons) , it's for sure the better pick.
TLD is about finding food, staying warm by the fire, and defending yourself against wild animals. More real-life type survival. And trust me that is plenty hard.
The Forest is about building bases, hiding from mutant cannibals, killing mutants, finding your son, and exploring caves. And it has co-op multiplayer.

Wanted to ask you guys who played both. The Forest is way more polished , if you are looking for long story or more action buy Forest . If you wanna play repetetive sandbox or wait at least "a year" for full game release - buy The long dark .
Eeeek!" I'm not looking into getting into a fight or slanging match about TLD being a repetetive sandbox game, I strongly disagree.
@Floydian - I haven't played The Forest so I wouldn't even begin to try and compare the two, but believe me TLD is certainly about as far away you can get from a 'repetetive sandbox' as Cartman describes it. It's his opinion of course and he's entitled to that - but if you put it to the vote I'm sure there would be many TLD players that disagree with his 'repetetive' as I do.
Good Luck with your selection and travels. and may the RNG god go with you.
29 янв. 2018 в 2:29I actually bought the long dark, played first chapter was good, playing 2nd chapter meh.
too much running, too much overly dramatic "mysteries", only thing matter is that a good save point. and after purchasing I learned that game has more chapters to come meaning it's not fully ended game yet. Kinda dissapointed. I would definitely play again but when all the chapters come and story ended.

You need to play the sandbox. That is where the game truly shines. 29 янв. 2018 в 2:56
Good to hear that you got TLD, but sorry that you were disappointed with the Wintermute - the story mode of the game.
However there is much more to TLD than the story mode, there is Survival/Sandbox (which is certainly not repetitive). You can choose your starting point from eight maps. You can do 'The Challenges' - a great way of learning the game and getting around the maps. Also there are four difficulty levels from easy to hardcore, and we now have Custom mode which allows the player to select from lists of choices what type of game they want to play. Certainly not repetitive indeed.
So don't think there is nothing to do until the release of the rest of story mode, which will not cost you an extra dime btw.
Fire up your game and join the happy thong.
29 янв. 2018 в 4:18 I gave up on playing The Forest after 3 hours total. This game is way way better and well calculated. They thought about everything. 29 янв. 2018 в 5:54 I gave up on playing The Forest after 3 hours total. This game is way way better and well calculated. They thought about everything.I don't see any reason why TLD is better than The Forest . I play it often with friend , it's one of the best survival-crafting genre games still today . WAY MORE content there compared to this game and still that one is not even finished yet . Does have often big updates ( fixing the issues ) , no BS ( like developer diary ) from creators , always honest and straight .
Can't say more about the the story , cause many episodes are gonna come ( someday/this year/maybe ) . seeing some stuff like missing audio in dialogue makes me wanna ask , WTH they were thinking before releasing unfinished episode ?
Different aproach for developing a game , to say at least.
Well maybe i like the loneliness in this game. maybe thats why i recommend it. If he want to play with friends, deal with cannibals or other players. that one is for him.
I was playing the forest with a friend and still got bored. It just felt like every five seconds a cannibal appeared and attacked or more like five cannibals. (And people moan about wolves) So couldn’t build anything much, always respawnd at the plane instead of one of the many buildings/beds like any other survival game.
Needed about 10,000 trees cut down to build anything, it should have been called ‘the de-forestation’
Oh and I had to eat and drink like every 2 minutes.
Hey look I made an overexaggerated post about a game I haven’t played much and probably don’t understand, that was fun!
In all seriousness though it had some good points but I just didn’t get into it like TLD.
