Author's Comment

Pico was made in Flash 3, before the availability of variables (or just about any code, for that matter). To simulate stored data, I weaved a complex web of movie clips that gave orders to the main game. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of frame labels, so all the commands referred to frame numbers. This meant making changes to the flow of a boss battle (ie inserting frames to slow down movement) caused MASSIVE problems to arise. I finally muscled through it, so now you can beat the bosses on a fast computer!

Walkthrough

1) Get out of the classroom (south), go East then take the fire extinguisher. You will need it later.

2) Click East and enter into the Janitor's Closet (North). Take the Gun and get out.

3) Go East and you will find a guy with a gun. DO NOT click the arrow under his talking globe, click your gun in your inventory. You could do one of these things: kill him after he starts to cry or just let him go.

4) Click Again East and then open the 4th locker. You will find some "herb" that you might need it in a fight later.

5) Go back west 3 times and enter into that classroom to start a battle. The key in wining the battle is having a good eye, timing and NOT clicking like crazy. Take your time in protecting yourself, this battle is very easy. Once you win take the key.

6) Get back to the locked jail bars (where you got the "herb" 3 clicks to the East), click the key in your inventory to open it.

7) You will not find anything in the boys restroom besides 2 nice medals. In the girls restroom you will battle against a ninja (Hanzou) in the dark. Now the key to win here is clicking fast as you can while having a nice aiming. Screw patience, click as fast as you can because you won't be able to avoid his attacks. Once you win you will get some night vision goggles.

8) Use your "medical herb" to restore all your health points, now go to the west, enter to that room and use your extinguisher.

9) Get back to the classroom where you started this game, use your goggles and you'll see a key in the floor. Take it and get back where you extinguished the fire.

10) Get ready for the final battle against Cassandra. Here you will have to be patient since the battle may take a while. When you see Cassandra's eyes starting to flash, quickly shoot at them to avoid getting hurt. You can damage him by shooting at his balls. Be careful when the ceiling falls over you, quickly shoot at it. Once you defeat him you've won the game.

Medals

Finding all secret medals in this game is pretty easy, just click somewhere on the scenery or at any character (sometimes plenty of times).

I made this game in 1999, before I grew out of my edgy teen phase. or did I? It was posted on Newgrounds before the Portal system launched in 2000; I eventually uploaded it to the Portal in 2006 so people could vote on it and leave reviews.

This story has since been re-told with Pico's School: Love Conquers All.

Goth kids have shot up your school, and it's up to Pico to save the day! Originally featured on Newgrounds in 1999, I finally refactored the .FLA to accommodate faster computers. The problem with this game was that it was meant to run at 24fps, but boss battles slowed down and made things easier. As computers got faster, so did the boss battles.

As you’ve probably noticed, Friday Night Funkin’ is a really popular game. FNF is also a celebration of Newgrounds, featuring cameos by various characters from NG history.

One of those characters is Pico, from this game I made in 1999 called Pico’s School. As a result of FNF, thousands of people are discovering and playing Pico’s School every day now.

This makes me uncomfortable because I made Pico’s School 22 years ago and it’s all just sort of awkward to look at it now. There’s a lot I wish I had done differently, if I had more confidence in my ability to make a good game and if I had actually felt like the things I made mattered in the world, which I didn’t at the time. I didn’t even think I mattered.

Pico has been long overdue for revisions, so today I’ve updated Pico’s School with a restructured story to get it closer to the game I think it should have been.

I hope everyone understands why I felt this was necessary and respects my decision to make some changes. I think Pico’s School is a much stronger game as a result, let me know how you like it!

This is the Love Conquers All edition of Pico's School; a re-telling of the original story in a split reality where one small decision changes the course of events.

This game replaced the original Pico's School on April 1st, 2021 but now they both exist together as alternate timelines.
