Установка MOGRT
Шаблоны анимированной графики — это файлы в формате .mogrt, которые можно создать в After Effects или Premiere Pro.
Premiere Pro CC 2018.1 - 2020
Путь установки для Windows:
С://Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Common/Motion Graphics Templates
Путь установки для Mac OS:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Motion Graphics Templates
Для Premiere Pro СС 2017.2 - CC 2018
Путь установки для Windows:
С://Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Common/Essential Graphics/
Путь установки для Mac OS:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Essential Graphics/

A. Browse tab B. Edit tab
Browse
Use this tab to browse Motion Graphics templates (.mogrt files) in Adobe Stock. These are professionally designed templates you can easily drag to your timeline and customize. Adobe Stock is a marketplace for video footage, Motion Graphics templates, photos, and more. For more information, see Browsing and managing Motion Graphics templates.
Use this tab to:
- Align and transform layers, change appearance properties, edit text properties and more.
- Add keyframes to your Premiere Graphics (prgraphics)
- Modify exposed properties for your After Effects Graphics (aegraphics)
Premiere Graphics can contain multiple text, shape and clip layers, similar to layers in Photoshop. Multiple Layers can be contained inside a single Graphic track item in your sequence. When you create a new layer, a graphic clip containing that layer is added to your timeline, starting at the playhead location. If you already have a graphic track item selected then the next layer you create gets added to the existing graphic clip.
Any graphics you create in Premiere Pro can be exported as a Motion Graphics Template (.mogrt) to Local Templates Folder, Local Drive, Creative Cloud libraries for sharing or reuse.
You can create Graphic Layers even if the sequence does not yet contain any video clips.
Create text layers
Create a title using the Type tool in the Program Monitor or the New Layer > Text commands in the Graphics Menu.
Viewing time: 1 minutes 28 seconds
To create a text layer in Premiere Pro, do the following:
Select the Type Tool (T) or Vertical Type Tool from the tools panel.
Click the Program Monitor where you want to position your text, and start typing. A single click creates text on a point. A click drag creates text in a box, which allows the text to wrap automatically within the border of the box.
Use the Selection Tool (V) to manipulate text and shape layers directly in the Program Monitor . You can adjust the position of a layer and rotate it. You can also change the anchor point and scale of a text layer as well as the dimensions of a text in a box.
Make sure that the text tool is deselected. If not, you will create an extra text layer. Before making further changes using Direct Manipulation, make sure to select the Selection Tool.
Adjust the appearance of your text using the Edit tab of the Essential Graphics panel.
A. Align and Transform B. Text C. Fill D. Stroke
- Text properties: Change the font of your selected text by selecting a font from the drop down list. You can also change a Font Style of your text (such as Bold or Italic). If a font doesn’t include the style you want, you can apply faux styles—Faux Bold, Faux Italics, All Caps, Small Caps, Superscript, Subscript and Underline.
- Fill : Change the color of text by selecting the text, clicking the Fill/Stroke swatch in the Appearance section of the Essential Graphics panel, and choosing a color.
- Stroke : Change the stroke (border) of the text by choosing the text, clicking the Stroke color and choosing a color. You can also change the stroke width, stroke styles or add multiple strokes to your text and create cool effects. For more information, see Create multiple strokes.
- Background : Change the background of the text by choosing the text, and clicking the Background color option. You can then adjust the opacity and size of the background. If you don't want any background for the text, deselect the Background option. For more information, see Edit text backgrounds.
- Shadow : Change the shadow of the text by choosing the text, and clicking the Shadow color option. You can then adjust various shadow properties such as distance, angle, opacity, size, and blur.
Replace fonts in projects
You can replace fonts in a project, updating all fonts simultaneously instead of updating them individually. For example, if you have a graphic with multiple layers of text and you decide to change the font, you can use the Replace Fonts in Projects command to change the font of all the layers simultaneously.
Use this page to know about the Essential Graphics panel in After Effects and how to work with Motion Graphics templates and Master Properties.
The Essential Graphics panel allows you to build custom controls for motion graphics and share them as Motion Graphics templates via Creative Cloud Libraries or as local files. Essential Graphics panel works as a bucket in which you can add different controls, modify them, and then pack them as shareable Motion Graphics templates. A new workspace for working with the Essential Graphics panel in After Effects, named Essential Graphics , is available from the workspace bar. You can access the workspace from the Window > Workspace .
The Essential Graphics panel in After Effects can be used in four main ways:
- As a control surface within After Effects: Use the Essential Graphics panel as a control surface for your compositions. Drag parameters from your timeline into Essential Graphics panel to create shortcuts for the elements in your composition you change often.
- To create Master Properties that work as master controls that allow you to modify effect and layer properties of a composition when it is nested in another composition.
- To export Motion Graphics templates (.mogrt): Encapsulate your After Effects project into a Motion Graphics template that can be edited directly in Premiere Pro. All the source images, videos, and pre-comps necessary to maintain your design are packaged in the template. Only the controls you expose are available for customization in Premiere Pro that allows you to retain creative control of your design.
- To group controls together, control font properties, and add controls for CSV and TSV spreadshseet data sources to a Motion Graphics template. You can access the groups with the Add Formatting menu in the Essential Graphics panel. The Add Comment command can be accessed from this menu.
Creating Motion Graphics templates in After Effects
Watch this video to learn about creating Motion Graphics templates in After EffectsCompositions in Essential Graphics panel
In the Essential Graphics panel, use the Master drop-down to select a composition in your project to start building a Motion Graphics template.
To open a composition in Essential Graphics panel in After Effects, do any of the following:
- To open current composition, select Composition > Open in Essential Graphics.
- To open a particular composition, right-click a composition in the Project panel, and select Open in Essential Graphics .
- To open any composition in your project, click the Master menu in the Essential Graphics panel.
Master composition
The Master composition is the current composition in the Essential Graphics panel. You can add supported properties from the Master composition to the panel. You can also add properties from the compositions that are in the hierarchy of the master composition.
Properties from composition that are not in the hierarchy of the master composition are considered unrelated properties. When you add unrelated properties to the Essential Graphics panel, a warning message is displayed. The properties are still added to the panel, but are highlighted in red and have no effect when exported as a Motion Graphics template.
Tip: To use unrelated properties, nest the composition containing the properties into the master composition or the hierarchy.
Unrelated properties do not work when the composition is exported as a Motion Graphics template.
Add controls
You can add supported properties from any effect or any layer property group such as - Transform , Masks , and Material Options .
Types of supported controls:
- Check box
- Color
- Numerical slider (a single-value numerical property), such as Transform > Opacity or the Slider Control expression control effect
- Source text
- 2D point properties, such as Transform > Anchor Point, Transform > Position, and the Point Control expression control effect
- 2D scale properties, such as Transform > Scale
- Angle properties, such as Transform > Rotate and the Angle Control expression control effect
If you add unsupported properties, After Effects displays a warning message, 'After Effects Error: Property type is not yet supported for use in Motion Graphics templates.'
To add a control, drag single or multiple selected properties from the timeline into the Essential Graphics panel.
You can also use the Add Property to Essential Graphics panel command to add properties to the Essential Graphics panel from either the Timeline or Effect Controls panels. Use any of the following steps to add properties:
- Select a property in the Timeline panel, then select Animation > Add Property to Essential Graphics .
- Right-click a property in the Timeline panel or Effect Controls panel, then select Add Property to Essential Graphics from the menu.
You can also assign a keyboard shortcut to the Add Property to Essential Graphics panel command. To learn the steps, see Visual Keyboard Shortcut Editor.
View supported properties
If you want to only view the properties supported by the Essential Graphics panel, click the Solo Supported Properties button in the panel. The button filters the properties and displays the supported properties in the timeline.
Modify controls
You can use the Essential Graphics panel to customize controls in the following ways:
- Rename a control: To rename a control, do any of the following:
- Click the name field of the control and enter a new name.
- Drag and highlight the current name and enter a new name.
The controls that you add to the Essential Graphics panel are linked to the source properties. Changing the value of a control also changes the value of the properties in the composition. For example, if you change the Opacity to 50% in the panel, the value of Opacity in the composition also changes to 50%.
The composition values are simultaneously updated as you slide the value of numerical controls in the panel. To disable the live update feature, hold Option (Mac) or Alt (Win) as you slide.
Create groups of controls
You can group controls in the Essential Graphics panel for better navigation and to reduce clutter. This is particularly helpful when you add long lists of editable controls or the master properties of nested compositions to the panel.
To create a group, click the Add Formatting menu in the lower-left corner of the Essential Graphics panel, then select Add Group .
To add a control to a group, drag it over the group name.
Font controls
When you add a text layer to the Essential Graphics panel, you can modify and control the font family, font style, size, and faux styles of that layer in a Motion Graphics template. Use the following steps to add font property controls to the panel:
Add the Source Text property of a text layer to the Essential Graphics panel.
Click Edit Properties option on the right side of the control row.
In the Source Text Properties dialog, select the font properties to control from the following options:
- Enable Custom Font Selection - Adds the Font Family and Font Style controls.
- Enable Font Size Adjustment - Adds the Font Size control.
- Enable Faux Styles - Adds Faux Bold, Faux Italic, All Caps, and Small Caps controls.
There is another option in this dialog - Use layer as fallback text box , when you check it on, you can select a comp/subcomp and a shape or clip layer to determine an alternate text box for editing the text in Premiere Pro Program Monitor. This is needed because so many mogrts have text rects which are are unusable - either offscreen, incorrect size, or incorrect placement.
Alternate text rectsFont controls are unsupported as master properties of a nested composition.
Add comments in Essential Graphics panel
To add comments, click the Add Comment button at the bottom of the Essential Graphics panel. You can add multiple comments, rename them, and reorder them. You can also undo and redo adding comments, reorder them, and remove them if necessary.
- To rename, click the name field of the comment and enter a new name.
- To reorder, drag the comment up or down the panel.
To delete a comment, select the comment and press Backspace or Delete.
Modifying controlsWhen you duplicate a composition in the Project panel ( cmd+D Mac or ctrl+D Win), After Effects duplicates properties and comments added to the Essential Graphics panel for that composition.
Name the template
To name or rename your Motion Graphics template, click the name field of the template, and enter a new name.
Set poster frame for the template
You can set the poster frame for your template. The poster frame is used as the thumbnail image for your template in Creative Cloud libraries and the Essential Graphics panel in Premiere Pro.
To set the poster frame, follow these steps:
In the master composition, place the current-time indicator on the frame you want to select.
Click the Set Poster Time button in the Essential Graphics panel.
Export a template
To export your composition as a Motion Graphics template , follow these steps:
Click the Export Motion Graphics Template button at the bottom of the Essential Graphics panel. Compositions in the hierarchy of the master composition are included in the template.
- Creative Cloud Libraries: Add templates to your Creative Cloud Libraries.
- Essential Graphics: Add templates to the local folder by default. Templates stored in the Essential Graphics folder are directly available in the Essential Graphics panel in Premiere Pro.
- Local Drive: Save templates to a local directory. The templates you save to your local directory are not automatically available in the Essential Graphics panel in Premiere Pro.
Exporting the Motion Graphics templatesSelect a check box under Compatibility:
- Warn me if this Motion Graphics template uses fonts that are not available from Adobe Fonts: Enable this option if you want After Effects to warn you if any fonts used by the composition are not available on Adobe Fonts.
- Warn me if After Effects needs to be installed in order to customize this Motion Graphics template: Enable this option if you only want to export After Effects independent features - for example, any third-party plug-ins.
For more information on adding assets to Creative Cloud Libraries, see Creative Cloud Libraries in After Effects.
These options only display warnings, they do not modify the content of the Motion Graphics template. To edit the project to meet the requirements, cancel the export and make the changes, then export the Motion Graphics template again.
Choose the export destination from the Destination menu and click OK .
You can import Motion Graphics Templates that use the Roto Brush effect into Premiere Pro. For more information, see Roto Brush, Refine Edge, and Refine Matte effects.
You can author Motion Graphics templates (.mogrt files) that do not require the user to have After Effects installed on their computer to customize them. Make sure that your templates meet the following requirements to ensure an After Effects install is not required for the user of your .mogrt:
- Only the Classic 3D composition renderer is supported; the CINEMA 4D and Ray-traced 3D renderers are not supported.
- All effects included with After Effects are supported, except: Camera-Shake Deblur, Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse, Maxon CINEWARE, Puppet, and Warp Stabilizer.
- Dynamic Link footage is not supported such as Premiere Pro sequences or Character Animator CC scenes in an After Effects composition.
- FLV format footage and third-party plug-ins are not supported.
To edit your After Effects Motion Graphics template (.mogrt files), you can open them in After Effects as a Project file. After you edit the template, re-export it as a .mogrt file.
To open a Motion Graphics template as a project, use the following steps:
Select File > Open Project .
In the Open Project dialog, select a .mogrt file, then click Open . When you open a .mogrt as a project, After Effects extracts the project file and assets. In the Extract "<filename>.mogrt " dialog, choose a location to extract the .mogrt contents, then click Extract .You can also modify a Motion Graphics template used in a sequence in Premiere Pro 12.1 with the following steps:
- In After Effects, open the .mogrt file as a project. Modify one or more compositions, or add or change controls in the Essential Graphics panel.
- After you make the edits, in the Essential Graphics panel, click Export Motion Graphics Template button. You can either replace the original .mogrt file or select a new location or name for the updated file.
- In Premiere Pro, hold Option (MacOS) or Alt (Win) and drag the new or updated .mogrt from the Browse tab of the Essential Graphics panel and over the existing .mogrt clip in the sequence. Premiere Pro updates the Edit tab of the Essential Graphics panel with the new controls.
In After Effects, open the .mogrt file as a project. Modify the compositions, or add or modify controls in the Essential Graphics panel.
After you edit, in the Essential Graphics panel, click Export Motion Graphics Template button. You can either replace the original .mogrt file or select a new location or name for the updated file.
In Premiere Pro, in the Browse tab of the Essential Graphics panel, hold Opt (MacOS) or Alt (Win) and drag the new or updated .mogrt over the existing .mogrt clip in the sequence. Premiere Pro updates the Edit tab of the Essential Graphics panel with the new controls.
Data-driven Motion Graphics templates allow you to quickly and accurately customize bar charts, line graphs, and more, without manual entry or deep knowledge of motion graphics.
With this feature, you can add controls for CSV (comma-separated value) and TSV (tab-separated value) spreadsheet data to the Essential Graphics panel. When you export these Motion Graphics templates with data controls to Premiere Pro, you can modify or replace them in Premiere Pro.
Another use is that the data controls in the Essential Graphics panel can work as a data browser or editor for CSV or TSV data layers in your composition without exporting it as a template. When you add a composition with spreadsheet data to the panel, the panel displays all the related data which is editable. If you are working with a nested composition, the data controls are not accessible as master properties of that composition.
Use the following steps to add data controls to the Essential Graphics panel:
Import a CSV or TSV file into your project and add it to your composition.
In the Timeline panel, twirl open the layer properties for the data layer.
Select and drag the data property group of the layer to the Essential Graphics panel.
You can modify the following properties for spreadsheet data in the Essential Graphics panel:
When you add the Data property group of a data layer to the panel, it removes the expressions that link the data properties of the layer to the source data file. It changes them to static values. If you modify the source data file outside of After Effects, the static data values automatically update.
For more information on how to use these templates in Premiere Pro, see Work with data-driven Motion Graphics templates.
If you are working with .tsv files, specifically with Excel in German (but this impacts any language that uses a comma instead of a decimal), Excel saves the .tsv files as .txt files. You need to manually change the file extension to .tsv before attaching it to a Motion Graphics template in Premiere Pro.
Alternatively, you can use other spreadsheet tools like Open Office or Google Sheets.
Essential Properties work as primary controls that allow you to access layer and effect properties of a composition when it is nested in another composition. This can be time-saving when you build complex animations across multiple nested compositions as you don't have to open separate precompositions to view their properties. Essential Properties can override their original values and keyframes, which allows you to reuse the same composition as multiple instances with different values. The source composition remains the same, your edits only create instances that you can render after editing your comp.
When you author a Motion Graphics template, it is common to keep the MOGRT flexible for editors using them in Premiere Pro by giving sliders and checkboxes to customize properties. However, for more complex workflows with multiple options, using sliders or checkboxes is not always intiuitive, and is time consuming. You can use the Dropdown Menu Control which is especially helpful for authors of Motion Graphics Templates and editors in Premiere Pro as the menu makes it easier to have more control options and a simpler experience to adjust parameters.
For more information on how it works in Premiere Pro, see Use Motion Graphics templates in Premiere Pro.
When working in the Essential Graphics panel, allow Premiere Pro editors to replace media, such as logos, videos, and other content within Motion Graphics templates. When working within After Effects, change out video and images with Essential Properties to create rapid iterations on your composites. For more information, see Replace images and videos in Motion Graphics templates and Essential Properties.
Let’s not beat around the bush here, having to go back and forth between Premiere Pro and After Effects is a pain. If you work in a collaborative video environment a typical graphics workflow looks something like this:
A Motion Designer Creates an After Effects Template
The Editor or Producer Figures Out the Necessary Graphics for Video
The Graphics are Edited and Exported in After Effects (One-by-One)
The Graphics are Imported and Added in Premiere Pro
Needless to say this workflow takes for-ev-ur. Adobe has addressed this problem by introducing features like the Dynamic Link and Live Text Templates, but each update has had it’s own issues that have made it very difficult to use in day-to-day editing life. That was until they released the Essential Graphics Panel.
The Essential Graphics Panel is a feature that makes graphic workflows 10x easier when working on a video project. For motion designers the biggest reason to get excited about the Essential Graphics Panel is the fact that it allows After Effects projects to be linked to Premiere Pro. Unlike traditional After Effects templates, the Essential Graphics Panel gives video editors the ability to edit an After Effects composition without ever opening up After Effects. This allows any editor, no matter their After Effects proficiency, to edit and customize After Effects templates without having any After Effects knowledge whatsoever.
Now the actual process of creating, preparing, and editing an Essential Graphics Template isn’t as easy as simply importing an After Effects sequence into Premiere, but it honestly isn’t that difficult either. In the video above we= cover everything you need to know to get started with the Essential Graphics Panel. The video covers the entire Essential Graphics Panel workflow, from start to finish. If you want to follow along you can download the free project files by following the download link at the top of the page.
A Tale of Two Templates (Premiere-Based vs AE-Based Templates)
Currently there are two distinctly different types of Essential Graphics Templates available to Creative Cloud users: Premiere-Based Templates and After Effects Motion Graphic Templates.
Pros: Fully Editable Text, Easily Save New Templates, Master Styles, Master Graphic Upgrades
Cons: None of the benefits of After Effects (Precomps, Effects, Expressions, Plugins, etc.), Can Give Non-Designer Users Too Much Control
Premiere-Based Title Graphic Motion Graphic Templates are Motion Graphic Templates that have have been created inside of Premiere Pro. While this may seem a little weird if you come from a Motion Graphic background, it is a helpful tool for editors who may not be as comfortable with After Effects and expression engineering. Any title can be turned into a template in Premiere Pro by navigating to Graphics>’Export as a Motion Graphic Template’. Title Graphic Templates give users access to the type tool, ellipses, rectangles, and video/image asset uploads.
The video/image upload feature is especially cool because it allows you to pre-render graphic elements like lower thirds or full screens in After Effects and combine them with a text layer to create an easily editable and sharable template in Premiere Pro. The animation potential for such a feature is a low, but worth noting. We will not cover Title Graphic Templates for this tutorial as they are limited to Premiere Pro’s animation features, but there are some good articles and videos out there about how to use this feature.
Pros: Utilizes After Effects Projects, Custom Editable Fields in Premiere, Tons of Control via Expressions
Cons: Requires Intermediate to Advanced After Effects Knowledge, Can Take a While to Load in Premiere
In contrast to text-based graphic templates, After Effects Essential Graphic Templates allow users to have almost complete control over an After Effects project if they are setup correctly. These templates can be built just like any After Effects project, but they must be editable from sliders, checkboxes, or source text controls (more on this below). Using the Essential Graphics Panel users can utilize Dynamic Motion Graphic Templates to edit virtually any field in After Effects, from simple color controls to third-party plugins like Element 3D. Our tutorial and step-by-step process will outline how to create this type of template.
Note: To use the Essential Graphics Panel you must have After Effects installed on your computer.
Creating an Essential Graphics Template starts with creating an After Effects project. While the entire process of creating an After Effects project is definitely outside of the scope of this specific lesson, if you’re interested in learning more about After Effects check out our 30 Days of After Effects series here on School of Motion.
Simply setup your After Effects template project like you would any other project with two major caveats:
Not every parameter can be dropped into a new Essential Graphics Template. Items like point values and rotations must be ‘hacked’ via expressions in order to work. The best way to make this happen is to link expression controllers to various parameters and inputs around your After Effects project. I typically place all of my expression controllers in a null object located in the master composition. This is actually pretty easy to do if you know how to use expressions. If not, check out our intro to After Effects Expressions lesson here on School of Motion.
Note: Be sure to mess with individual parameters before committing to using expressions. You might get away with directly adding certain fields like on/off switches and slider based value controllers without writing a single line of expressions.
Here’s how to link all of the expression controllers to the Essential Graphics Panel:
Checkbox - This expression to create an On/Off checkbox. A value of 1 is for ‘On’ and a value of 0 is for ‘Off’.
Slider - Use this expression to link parameters to sliders. This one is super easy because you can simply use a pick whip to link parameters together.
Note: You can lock your effects box by clicking the lock icon at the top of your effects control panel.
Text Box - To link a text box simply pickwhip from your source text to a text box expression controller. Easy-peasy.
Note: If you want give your users control over type controls like font, position, boldness, paragraph, etc., you must create the template in Premiere Pro using the type tool and the ‘Export as Motion Graphic Template’ feature. This means that all of your shape layers and keyframes will be created directly in Premiere Pro. Premiere Gal has an in-depth tutorial about how to do this. Because we’re dealing with pre-customized and on-brand graphics we will ignore this feature.
Color Control - Use a pick whip to connect a color box.
Point Controls - Unfortunately at this time point controls are not supported. Instead you must use an array (scary, I know…) to connect each one of your individual X,Y, and Z axis to an individual slider. X = 0, Y = 1, Z = 2.
Angle Controls - Similar to point controls, users don’t currently have the ability to adjust angle sliders from the Essential Graphics Panel. But you can easily attach angle controls to sliders.
Layer Control - There’s really no great way to create a layer control at the moment. The best way I’ve seen people do it is through using an ‘If Than’ expression for BG images and connect the assets to a slider. For example: If (‘slider value’ == 6) 100 else 0.
File uploading is currently only available with Premiere-based Essential Graphic Templates. In short, Premiere doesn’t give editors the ability to upload image, video, or sound assets to AE-based templates in the Essential Graphics Panel. This means that (at this point) it is basically impossible to upload a custom image or video to your motion graphic template without opening it up in After Effects. Perhaps this will be introduced in the future, but for now editors have to workaround this issue. This problem is, of course, irrelevant if you are using a Premiere-based Motion Graphic Template.
Don’t let the caveats scare you away from using this feature. They honestly shouldn’t impair you from using the Essential Graphics Panel on most of your projects.
Now that we’ve put our project together now it’s time to create the panel that can be exported to Premiere. You can access the Essential Graphics Panel in After Effects by navigating to Window>Essential Graphics (duh). This will pop up a simple box with a four options:
Master: The Master Composition. AKA the composition with all of the precomps in it.
Solo Supported Properties: Shows all of the parameters that can added to the Essential Graphics Panel. This will make sense in a second.
Set Poster Frame: Sets the thumbnail that your editor will see when they are browsing for the template in Premiere. By default this is set to the first frame so be sure to adjust this if you are working on a transition template.
Assuming you’ve set up your composition correctly by connecting the necessary layers and properties to expression controllers it’s time to create the panel. This process is actually surprisingly easy. Just hit the ‘Solo Supported Properties’ button in the Essential Graphics Panel and drag and drop your desired parameters to the Essential Graphics Panel. Once you’ve populated your ‘template’ with all of the desired parameters you can drag them around into any order that you want. The ‘Add Comment’ button is especially useful if you want to add in notes for your editors.
Once you’ve created your template hit the ‘Export Motion Graphics Template…’ button and you will be prompted to save your new template to a specific location. If you’re using the same machine to design and edit you can export directly to the ‘Essential Graphics’ folder on your machine. If not, you can export the template file anywhere you like. I recommend using the Creative Cloud libraries feature for quick and easy access across all of your devices. The file will be be saved as a .mogrt file.
It’s important to note that these new .mogrt files are much different than normal After Effects project files in that the assets are stored inside the project file. This means you don’t have to worry about compiling or collecting all of the assets before giving the template to your editor.
3. Import the Essential Graphics Panel Project in Premiere Pro
Now it’s time to close After Effects (or minimize because let’s get real you don’t ever really close After Effects) and open up a project Premiere Pro. Once you’re ready to bring your template into your project navigate to Window>Essential Graphics. This will pop up the Essential Graphics Panel.
By default you’ll notice a few folders with template files inside. A few of these templates can be useful for utility purposes like closed captions and credits, but for the most part you’ll probably want to ignore the majority of these default templates.
To import your template into Premiere hit the small import button that looks like a folder with an arrow. This will open up a browser where you can find your desired Essential Graphics Template. Once you hit the open button it will appear in the browser window. To stay better organized I recommend creating a folder for each of your motion graphic projects.
Bring your template into your project by simply dragging it into the timeline.
Once you drop your template into the timeline there will be a small wait before it loads. If you get the dreaded red ‘media offline’ screen don’t worry. The graphic template can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two to load depending on the size of the template.
4. Edit the Essential Graphics Panel in Premiere Pro
Once your template is loaded into your timeline you should automatically see that your Essential Graphics Panel has changed from ‘Browse’ mode to ‘Edit’ mode. If not, just select your graphic in the timeline and hit the ‘Edit’ tab at the top of the Essential Graphics Panel.
Assuming that you have correctly set up all of your graphics in After Effects you should be able to edit all of the necessary fields using the parameters listed. However, if you find something wrong with your template you must go back into After Effects and re-save the template. It’s a little tedious when you’re setting up a graphics package, but once it’s done it will save you a ton of time in the future.
Duplicating the Graphics in the Premiere Pro Timeline
If you want to duplicate your template all you have to do is either hold down option (alt on a PC) and drag your template to the desired location, or simply copy and paste the clip to the correct spot in the timeline.
Quick Note: Don’t forget to have the right video track selected when you copy and paste the clip.
I know this may seem like a lot, but once you understand the workflow it is actually incredibly easy to create Essential Graphics Templates out of After Effects projects. This new feature is likely going to evolve into a larger shift in the way editors and motion designers collaborate, making it easier for everybody to focus on creating a great video content and not technical implementation.
