With the release of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, v. 2.0 on April 1, 2016, Steam Achievements have become a part of the game for some users. Where "some users" refers to those who bought and play the game through Steam. Two subsequent revisions (2.1 and 2.2) saw only minor bug fixes to the achievement system. Achievements are also available for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition.

Spoiler Alert: Some of the achievements listed here are not documented in Steam's library entry for the game until you earn them. So if you want these achievements to remain hidden until then, as Beamdog, Helm, Ilmater and the other deities intended them to be, run away!

Experience rewards [ ]

Experience rewards are by default divided equally amongst the party members. Any remaining experience is granted to the leader. Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn introduced a special reward, dubbed Quest experience. It is named this way because it is only granted as a quest reward. The term quest being a loose term for an event that is not a monster kill and doesn't always update a quest journal entry. It does not mean that all quest rewards that grant experience are quest experience. The log will clearly indicate when quest experience is being rewarded, by listing each member that receives it separately and by using the term.

Quest experience grants a predetermined amount to each party member. For example, if you have 4 party members and the quest experience is 25,000 the total experience rewarded is 100,000. But for a 6 member party the total will be 150,000. Quest experience by design has no left overs. The disadvantage is that the quest always grants the same amount to a character. Doing a run with less party members or even solo will not give you more experience, whereas "normal" a.k.a party experience does.

But if you have Staff Mace +2 in your inventory in addition to Ashideena (which will be dropped), you'll get the Staff Mace

Baldur's Gate [ ]

The sixty-one achievements, forty-three of which are hidden, for the Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition base game; see below for those added with Siege of Dragonspear.

The Experience Cap of every game is different. Levels beyond 8,000,000 XP in the main campaign can't be reached without mods. In The Black Pits II: Gladiators of Thay a total of 8,950,000 XP would theoretically be possible, as the rule defining files exist for such levels, but it's also an experience cap applied at 8,000,000.

In the Enhanced Editions, if the protagonist's experience exceeds certain thresholds at the time companions first join the party, the exact threshold number of XP will be set to the under-leveled companion for the player to manually level them up instead of the auto-leveling in the classic games. The XP will only be given to the active classes, so dual-class characters can actually benefit more. The maximum threshold numbers vary among campaigns.

For dual-class the XP is limited by the second class XP cap, and XP is counted cumulatively across both classes toward this cap.

Some campaigns let you continue from previous chapters as a whole party, everything is transferred, including romances, this process happens automatically once you beat the previous chapters.

↑ Besides automatically continuing game which carries over everything from the Shadows of Amn campaign, click Single Player in Throne of Bhaal then Import Game will allow to player to start with the whole party from the save, excluding Imoen from the prologue. It's not recommended to do so however, as the only two extra items you'll receive are Amulet of Seldarine and BAG19, romance may not be inherited and the save file may be unstable due to conflicts.

Any characters dualed to Specialist Mage will have their spellbook rewritten, their proficiency points resigned to be a Generalist Mage state carries over from SoA to ToB

In Baldur's Gate series, players may choose to start a campaign as an imported character or by transferring data from previous saves.
